Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at hello@bluemooncanine.co.uk if you can’t find an answer to your question.

All of our products are handmade to order by just one pair of hands, so production times can vary. This depends on the size of your order, the availability of paracord in your chosen colours, and when you place your order (for example, we don’t work over weekends).

Our paracord comes from a small business in the Netherlands, so we can’t always predict when new stock will arrive. We also only keep a limited amount of each colour in stock so if you’re placing a large order in one colour, we may need to order additional paracord, which will add extra time to your order.

We always aim to complete orders as quickly as possible, but we won’t compromise on quality by rushing. If you need your order urgently, it’s essential to contact us before placing your order. Once an order has been placed, we cannot prioritise it to ensure fairness for all our customers.

We appreciate you’re looking forward to receiving your order, but good things come to those who wait :)

This will depend on the type of product you are purchasing. For slip collars, the size is dependent on both the neck measurement and height of your dog. A short but large dog may need the same size as a slimmer, taller dog for example.

A general rule of thumb is to measure your dog's neck circumference and then again from under their chin to whenever you'd like the ring attachment to sit. This will give you a rough idea of the length you want but please do contact us if you are unsure and we will be happy to assist you.

For very large dogs Irish wolfhounds, Great Danes etc) we recommend you purchase our XL collars and 8mm or above for any paracord items. This is purely for comfort and nothing to do with weight.

Let’s Talk Tug Handles!

When we first designed our ball tugs, we only made them with a knot handle. We quickly realised that some dogs preferred to grab onto the paracord instead of the ball, which meant the heat shrink was wearing down quicker and sometimes exposed the stitching underneath.

Whilst this didn’t necessarily affect the strength of the tugs, we wanted to come up with a better solution.

That’s when we designed the knotted loop handle, giving dogs a strong, sturdy spot to hold onto. We then started getting feedback from people saying they loved the loop handle as it made it easier for them to grip and hold during play.

So that’s when we added the heat shrink loop handle - the perfect in between option that’s strong, tidy and comfortable to use.

To this day, almost every tug order we pack has a different handle and we love that! We want every dog and owner to feel like they’ve got a tug that suits them. Having the option of three different handles means you can pick what works best for your dog’s play style and your own preferences.

Here’s a little guide to help:

•Knotted loop handle – Best for dogs who like to tug on the paracord. It helps extend the life of the tug and keeps playtime fun.

•Knot handle – A great choice for dogs who prefer fetch or don’t tug as much. It’s lighter and less bulky.

•Heat shrink loop – A combination of both: neat, comfy, and sturdy.

You might notice our loop handles have a small surcharge - that’s just because they use more paracord (the knotted loop uses more than double compared to the knot handle!).

We’re also happy to adjust the length of the paracord for you; whether you’d like it a bit shorter or longer, just leave us a note in the special instructions section at checkout and we’ll make it happen.

You can check out the handle diagrams here and if you’re still unsure which one to go for, just drop us a message - we’re always happy to help!

For large orders, it can be up to 20 working days.
It is hard to give a specific time frame as it depends on order size and how busy we are at that particular time.
We only post orders Monday - Friday, even if you choose special delivery. During busy times such as holidays, we will occasionally post on weekends to get through any backlogs.

We use a premium paracord for all of our items, with a minimum breaking strength of 250kg.

All of the metal hardware has a minimum breaking strength of 150kg, going up to 200kg.

Despite this, we recommend regularly checking your items for signs of wear and tear and keep an eye out if your dog is a chewer!

Paracord is a nylon based cord, originally used for parachutes. It is incredibly strong, hardwearing and mould/mildew resistant.

Whilst we are confident your items will last, we firmly believe in reducing waste wherever we can. That's why we offer a refresh service. If your item has seen better days or your dog has had a little nibble on it (no judgement here, it happens to the best of us), we will replace the paracord free of charge as long as the hardware is still in good working condition.

Please email us at hello@bluemooncanine.co.uk for more info.

If your item is looking well loved and needs a little TLC, gently hand wash in lukewarm water, leaving to air dry. You may wish to use a dash of mild soap if it's particularly dirty. Please do not put any of our products in the washing machine.

Every single item we sell is measured, cut and sewn by hand. Despite having specific measurements that we always follow, no two items are going to be the exact same.
We will always do our best to make sure your items are uniform in size but occasionally there might be a few cm difference between your items.

We hope you take this into account before requesting an exchange and appreciate that our items are not made by machines.

Whilst we strive to provide the best possible service to all of our customers, we understand things don't always go swimmingly. Please email us at hello@bluemooncanine.co.uk and we will be more than happy to help.

Here at Blue Moon, we understand that no two dogs are the same and come in all different shapes and sizes. That's why we are committed to providing a large range of styles and measurements.

Despite this, we will always do our best to provide customisations and alterations where possible. If you require a tailored item, please get in touch for more info.

Slip collars and leads are a great training tool when used correctly. It is vitally important that they are fitted properly, they should always sit at the top of the neck - behind the ears and underneath the chin. It should always be ABOVE the windpipe. It also depends which side your dog walks on. If they walk on your left, it should be a letter p - on the right and it should be a number 9. Please take a look at our diagrams for a visual guide.

The length of the slip collar depends on its intended use. If your intention is to have it hanging and a second lead attached only some of the time, we recommend making sure it isn't too long for your dog. Due to the nature of the design, if it is too long the metal ring could potentially trip your dog up or bang against their leg.

We're all human and mistakes happen! If you have made an error with your order, please use our Returns Form and we will take care of the rest.

please note, we do not accept returns on bespoke items, which includes products made with your specific measurements so please use a tape measure!

No tool will ever correct a behaviour on its own. It is vitally important that slips are used correctly AND alongside consistent training. If you are concerned about your dogs behaviour we recommend reaching out to your vet or a professional trainer for further advice.

We would be delighted to partner up with businesses and offer bulk orders, please see our bulk order page if you’d like to find out more!

The black section on our products is called heat shrink tubing and is vital in protecting the stitching underneath.

Despite measuring and using specific lengths for our products, occasionally we have “off cuts” from

the ends of the spools which are slightly shorter. We are committed to reducing waste where we can, which is why we make use of these pieces.
